Double Dragon.

I don’t know if it’s a cool thing for all of the staff at the local Chinese take-out joint to all wave familiarly hello as you walk in for your weekly meal, but I’ll take it.  For those of you who don’t know me personally, I teach high school, and October is my suffer-quietly-stressful-paperwork-thereisnogod month.  Because of this, I keep finding myself behind the counter at Double Dragon.  I like it there.  And I don’t know if it’s that slow lurch back into the swing of things, or that I’m tutoring every afternoon this week (it’s a Bootcamp for kids failing) - - - all I know is that I’m hungry, my husband is out with the boys, and I’m not cooking tonight.

I got home from tutoring and loaded up my trusty steed, Belvedere, for an exciting car ride with the windows half-down.

When we arrived at the Double Dragon on Goss (next to the Germantown Kroger), I could feel the anticipation rising…  Hunger…  A day at school, only a clementine for a snack, and a night of grading memoirs (guh) gurgled in my stomach.  And when I approached the counter, the girl said, “We give you extra tofu!!!” - - - Ahhhhhhhh!

So, my meal is kind of silly, but I love it.  I love the tofu with broccoli, but my first love is pork fried rice.  I’ve been known to accidentally make my vegetarian friends cheat with this meal (they always know about the pork, they just get jealous of my rice…you know who you are!).  It’s damn good.  I order the tofu with broccoli dinner and pay an extra $2.50 for the pork fried rice (although the meal is fine with white rice too).  The total is always $9.54, and I always have lunch the next day.

70’s cookbook shots of my dinner:

YES!

When Bernhardt and I moved to Louisville, we didn’t have good go-to places.  We tried and failed at many a pizza, Thai, Indian, and Chinese nightmare.  Double Dragon, suggested by our friend Jonathan, is my favorite go-to for lonely StaceO nights where all I want to do is avoid the stack of papers, take a bath, and pass out during E-News.  If you don’t have a local, cheap and delicious Chinese place yet, try Double Dragon.  Bern loves the Sweet and Sour Chicken, the Shrimp Fried Rice, and I like my silly meal.  Believe me, you’ll thank me in your mind when it hits the spot after a long day at work.
