Zombie Walk 2010
Well, I feel a bit belated in announcing anything about Zombie Walk because it happened yesterday, but I felt my Uncle Ken’s photos were worth more than a thousand words. We had a sticky, corn-syrrup blood soaked time last night. Hundreds, maybe even a few thousand people were out last night dressed as zombies, walking the streets around Bardstown Road, bringing out their Zombie Sunday...

South Louisville Antique and Toy
Our friend Will told my toymaking husband about a place he might like: South Louisville Antique and Toy.
Located in South Louisville, this mall is everything you ever wanted as a kid. Rows and rows of glass cases full of old Barbies, Big Daddy Roth toys, keychains, ugly baby dolls, GI Joe ammo cases, Darth Vader masks, scary old people dolls, Mobius Models…you name it, it’s...

The Deal
We knew about The Deal before we moved to Louisville. We’re collectors, and any place with vintage-modern furniture is a place worth researching and then visiting as far as Bern and I are concerned.
Located at 1004 Barret Avenue, the owner Susan knows how to find what you want. In fact, she usually already has it. For example, when we first moved to town we went to her shop and said...

Goss Avenue Antiques and Interiors
One of our favorite places to check out antiques is Goss Avenue Antiques & Interiors, located at 946 Goss Avenue in Germantown.
The first time we came here, we left about 2 hours later…there was literally so much to see. I love looking at mass amounts of cake plates, pitchers, and chandeliers. I will often find a bunch of the same thing and get lost in it all…
When I...

F.A.B.D. is FAB.
We discovered FABD Smokehouse (Franklin Avenue Beer Depot) when we first moved to KY. Bernhardt and Paul were walking down Bardstown Road, and the smell coming from the restaurant was inviting. ”That place will probably be your place,” Paul said as they passed. Bern logged this into his memory, and when I happened into town, we went there first.
(Below: our table at FABD is always...

There must be something about basements...
I love basements. I love them for hiding, working, storing junk, sleeping in a hidden corner, and especially for antiquing. If you lose me at an antique shop, check for me in the dungeon below.
We found, and keep going to, an antique shop in Butchertown called The Crazy Daisy with my favorite basement in town.
On first entry, I assumed this would be a granny store. The name wasn’t...

Vietnam Kitchen.
We finally went to Vietnam Kitchen, and it was awesome just as expected. Located in a strip mall WAY down 3rd street, the only night it’s not open is on Wednesdays, so don’t go there on that day, ok? Ok…
They are also taking a holiday from August 8-25 (this was on their door).
I like their menu because it has a letter system, nice adjectives, and pictures that don’t...

2406 Laundry Mart - my kind of people!
About 1 month ago, I was up to my ears in laundry having put off washing sheets, towels, and clothes ever since we moved to the “awesome apartment in every way except the no laundry thing.” I got on the internet, and after looking through yellow pages and super yellow pages, making some calls, and doing one creepy Old Louisville laundromat drive by, I happened upon the website of 2406...

Tickled Pink.
When Vicks and Marts were in town, we went antiquing and junking. We knew the first place to take them had to be Tickled Pink.
This place is really fun, especially if you like to hunt for treasure. Bern and I favor the back garage.
Once Bernhardt found a candy counter in the back garage for $20. It was beautiful, and he considered using it for a desk, but abandoned the idea like a...

A nice juxtaposition.
Yesterday, our friend Ashley visited us from Chicago. For her, our move to Louisville is surreal, as she spent many a summer of her youth exploring the Highlands as well as her aunt’s house and orchard. The three of us exchanged experience and Louisville loves, with Ashley introducing us to HER Louisville and she being introduced to OURS.
First on the agenda, Ash took us to the 21 C...
